Canemah Bluff Nature Park

Step away from the cliffs overlooking the Willamette River to embark on a short trail reminiscent of a stroll in the English countryside.

The Cinema Bluff Nature Park is perched above the Willamette River, just south of Willamette Falls. The open, sunny space has a cute playground and basketball courts, and just a few steps toward the trees will lead you to a 1.5 mile loop through the forest.

The walk is insanely well-marked, with clear signs and maps at every possible fork. I've never seen any trail as well marked, which is ironic since it was so short!

That said, this walk will get your calves goin’! We went the longer way, along Old Slide Trail, where an unexpected hill evens out into a small clearing with a large overturned tree – perfect for walking up and declaring yourself Woman of the Forest.

Unfortunately, the end of Licorice Fern Trail drops you in the middle of a neighborhood street. Which way to get back to the park? Suddenly the trusty maps were nowhere to be found, and faced with two private roads, we followed the wrong one and had to double back.

I'm also pretty sure I got poison oak from this trail. Even so, it's a lovely amble for when you have an hour to spare!

Distance from Portland: 25 minutes / 20 miles

Length: 1.5 mile loop
