Cape Lookout State Park

This dreamy trail winds along a peninsula jutting out from the Oregon coast. With steep cliffs dropping hundreds of feet to reveal the ocean below, it's a thrill well worth the drive.

DREAM HIKE STATUS! The relatively flat and easy Cape Trail meanders 2.5 miles out into the Pacific Ocean - with incredible views in all directions.

Throughout the hike you’ll catch lookouts on either side out into the sea - via cliffs dropping 400 - 800 feet to the blue water! The views also boast craggy outcroppings where, if you’re lucky, you may spot seals and sea lions basking in the sun.

This is also a favorite spot for whale watching. As grey whales migrate parallel to the shore they have to maneuver around the tip of the peninsula, creating a natural viewing area for patient hikers.

Lucky observers have also spotted orcas and dolphins! Coastal wildlife galore!

We didn't see any animals (except hawks and eagles), but the sensation of walking so far into the ocean and looking back at the receding coastal range mountains behind us was absolutely magical.
