Meander along Falls Creek to a spectacular tiered waterfall.
Follow a long, winding gravel road absolutely ridden with potholes into Washington's Gifford Pinchot National Forest. After about a mile you'll reach the parking lot, and from there it's a 5 minute walk to Falls Creek.
Falls Creek leads you right, well, to the falls! It's a gentle terrain at first, which gains considerable elevation as you get nearer the falls.
You'll hear the falls before you see them. Next you'll get a gorgeous glimpse through the trees, and finally you'll come to a stop right in front to the cascading water.
The falls are magnificent. You can scramble down from the main lookout about 20 feet lower and closer - if you're able to, it's worth it.
We turned back here, but if you have time you can keep going another mile up to the Upper Falls, which also leads to a great view of the forested valley and the peaks of the Trapper Creek Wilderness.
Distance from Portland: 1 hour 30 minutes
