Flocked by the foothills of the Coastal Range Mountains, this serene lake is perfect for a relaxing day on your kayak.
Coming from the East, we saw no sign of any lake whatsoever and I was beginning to wonder if we were on a fool’s errand. Then suddenly appeared long grassy Scoggins Dam and BAM!
Huge Henry Haggs Lake taking over the landscape! Nestled by rolling hills and mountains on all sides, with inlets and creeks to explore and fishing boats sparkling on the water. We knew this was going to be amazing.
Eager to get in the water, we put our kayaks in at the Sain Creek Picnic Area. We soon learned that if we had driven 30 seconds further we would have found a legit boat launch (Recreation Area C) – but as it is we dropped in through a makeshift and slightly muddy swimming nook.
That’s alright, though, because starting at the cove made paddling out into the greater expanse of the lake all the more rewarding.
The sun was out, there was a gentle breeze and the water was calm and easy to cruise through. Lot of families barbecued on the shore and people were fishing on land and water, but the Northern half of the lake is a designated no-wake zone, and it’s large enough for everyone to find their own little oasis.
We ended up just floating around the middle of the lake, watching the mist pass through the Coastal Range mountains.
The stunning views, wide-open spaces, and clear water make Hagg Lake a perfect place for a relaxing kayak trip.
The recreation areas are ideal for boppin’ the volleyball or laying in the sun with a book. With countless trails to hike along the perimeter, this lakes got it going on.
